Translation/Interpretation Committee

The Translation/Interpretation Committee coordinates and facilitates translation of documents such as the Delegate’s post-conference report, Oregon Area business meeting minutes, Area motions, Area assembly agendas, and other Area and district-related documents. Additionally, it organizes interpretation services to assist non-English-speaking AA members to understand discussion and participate at all levels of Area service. This includes Area assembly business meetings, GSR sharing sessions, district reports, standing committee and Area Officer workshops, among other sessions.

About the Service Positions

The Translation / Interpretation Committee provides communication for the Spanish-speaking A.A. community for Oregon Area service related needs and providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for Deaf alcoholics attending any Area 58 functions. The Committee consists of a Chairperson and a Co-Chairperson, appointed by the Oregon Area Chairperson. Either the Chair or Co-Chair is primarily responsible for ASL interpretation services, while the other Chair/Co-Chair is primarily responsible for Spanish language translation services. On rotation, the ASL responsibilities adhere with the same individual for the full two-year period.
