Flyer translation suggested procedure

Read this in PDF

This procedure indicates how to submit a request for translation of Area-related documents to the Translation Committee. Since flyers are created in many different computer programs, and can have somewhat elaborate art embedded in them, the following procedure is suggested so that the Translation Committee will not have to deal with artwork, or use all sorts of different programs to help get the flyers converted.  The procedure describes how the maker of the flyer can create a numbered list of text to be converted, and then the Translation Committee translates that list into Spanish.

  1. The person or group that made the original flyer creates a numbered list of text lines to be translated.  (In most cases, you should be able to create your text list by using a ‘copy and paste’ approach using the program in which you created the original flyer [Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, Publisher, etc.]). For example:
    1. November Quarterly Assembly
    2. Resort at the Mountain, Nov 16-18 2007
    3. Chicken Buffet  (or mark as vegetarian)
    4. For accessibility needs, call…
  1. This list can be made in a variety of word processing programs like Microsoft Word, Wordpad, Word Perfect, etc.  If using something other than Microsoft Word, please save the file as an .rtf (rich text format), as .rtf files  can be opened in almost all word processing programs. To save the file as an .rtf, click File\Save As, and select .rtf as the file type in the “Save as type” drop-down menu.
  2.  Send your text list to translation@aa-oregon.org with a request to have it translated into Spanish.
  3. When the Translation Committee returns the list to you, it should contain the same amount of ‘numbered line’ of text, but this time they will be in Spanish!
  4. Cut and past, or type the Spanish wording into your flyer. In most cases you will be able to do this in the program you used to make the original flyer.
  5. If your document contains detailed artwork in English only, that is okay.  The intent is to get most of the information translated into Spanish.  We don’t have to be perfect!
